"Instituted in 1954, the Bharat Ratna has been awarded to just over fifty individuals in more than seventy years — recognition reserved for those who reshaped the nation."

The Bharat Ratna Theme File spans statesmen, scientists, musicians, and a cricketer — from Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabhbhai Patel among the very first recipients in 1954, to Sachin Tendulkar, the youngest ever honoured, in 2014.
